February 2009
Hello all,
may I wish you all health and happiness in 2009.
A big thank you to Fred Coutts and his team of chaplains for continuing to make our annual Christmas service so special and we must say this year saw a big turnout. Thank you to everyone who purchased SANDS merchandise at the service a total of £275 was raised which is excellent.
We would like to mention an up and coming SANDS network day on Saturday 16th May in Glasgow, this network day is a great chance for SANDS groups from all over Scotland to get together and exchange ideas and thoughts on the group's activities. The network consists of various speakers and workshops. The venue is the Holiday Inn 161 West Nile Street, Glasgow G1 2RL and will start approx 10am and finish up at approx 4.30pm. This day is open for anyone to attend, not just SANDS committee members and the hotel are offering a rate of £90 per room for 2 sharing including breakfast if anyone wishes to stay overnight. Travelling expenses will be paid for. If anyone is interested in this network day please get in touch with Fiona Donald 01224 707198 or Susan Forsyth on 01224 684208.
A big thank you to Graham Baldwin and Scott Ingram for producing our new leaflets "returning to work" and "maternity rights". If anyone requires a copy of these leaflets please get in touch.
Donations
We have received again, a lot of generous donations so a very BIG thank you to all the following:
Mark Richards did a sponsor walk and donated £210 to Aberdeen SANDS and £210 to Maggie's Cancer Care Centre, very well done to Mark on this achievement.
Pamela Styles donated £15, Susan Forsyth donated £17 and Jill Watt donated £150 from raffles at Body Shop parties done by Sandra Stephen. A thank you to Denise Morison for selling surplus Christmas candles at her car boot sale and raising £25 for SANDS.
All the following generous donations have been made in memory of Jill and Robin Watt's baby girl Murron from friends and family. £20 was given from Maria West and Margaret McLennon and £20 from Mrs Margaret Lyon and £10 from Mr and Mrs Menzies. Also donated in memory of his baby granddaughter was £100 from Colin Lyon. This money was a collection done by work mates at Baker Oil Tools when he left.
Jill Watt raised a fantastic £430.60 which included a Christmas quiz and donations from her friends Lauren and Louise Craig.
Judith McKenzie and friends kindly donated £50 instead of giving each other Christmas gifts.
A thank you also to Wendy Jones for donating a book token to the group.
