July 2010 Newsletter
Hello everyone,
We would like to say a BIG thank you to Fred Coutts and team for what was the last ever mid-year service at the Trinity Cemetery. The Chaplains have done this service for many years so a HUGE thank you to them, the service will be missed but Aberdeen SANDS are hoping to organise a small service of some kind to commemorate this. Thank you to everybody who has attended the Trinity service over the years.
Once again our Beetle drive was a roaring success, thanks to all who donated raffle prizes, helped out and took part to raise an amazing £1010.50 for Project17.
The Scottish Network Day in Dunfermline was attended by a few parents from the group; the day was hosted by Fife SANDS, there were various speakers including bereaved parents of twins who spoke of their loss, Sue Hale from National SANDS spoke about the WHY17 Campaign and the funding for two research projects they have provided. A midwife and hospital chaplain spoke about their roles and the comfort and care they give to bereaved parents and how this has improved over the years. These Network days seem to be very useful and can benefit the different Scottish groups. Aberdeen is hosting a Network day in May 2011 and hopefully this will be as successful as previous ones. All bereaved parents and any health professionals are invited to attend on a first come first served basis as we only have so many places. Full details will be provided towards the end of the year.
We are currently in the process of reviewing the contents of the Memory Pockets we supply to Rubislaw and the Neonatal Unit. The pockets are kindly made by a bereaved grandparent and currently the contents include memory cards for hand/footprints, SANDS support leaflets, CD of baby photographs and two teddies. We also provide baby clothes and shawls which parents can keep. The memories of our babies are so precious, so if you have any views or suggestions as to how we can improve what we provide please send them to Sandra Stephen.
Donations
A BIG thank you to all the following for their generous donations:
Rosemary and Bob Fraser kindly gave £30.00 in memory of Gemma and Sarah Donald's birthdays.
Alana Murray kindly sent us a combined donation of £300.00, this was raised at birthday parties from Sue Grovesnor £40.00 and Mr Robert Stuart £260.00, a lovely thought.
Claire and Graeme Lavery donated £335.00 profit from hosting an Uber party as a thank you to SANDS, a very kind gesture.
Naomi and Duncan MacIver donated £50.00 in lieu of Christmas cards and a gift from Callie to her precious brother Michael, a wonderful thought.
Emily and Kevin Tulloch donated £810.00 from sales of their DVD's and more donations from family and friends, thank you so much.
